AI-Designed Drug Shows Promise in Reversing Biological Aging

Insilico Medicine has developed a drug named rentosertib with the assistance of artificial intelligence. Preliminary clinical tests indicate the drug may have the capability to reverse biological aging.

A 12-week clinical trial conducted last year, involving 42 participants with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, utilized six different AI-based "aging clocks" to measure the drug's effects. All clocks predicted a reduction in participants' biological age after the treatment, while those receiving a placebo or no treatment showed either no change or an increase.

These aging clocks estimate individual aging speed and mortality risk using various biological and physiological markers. The study's findings were published this week in Nature Biotechnology.

However, the efficacy of rentosertib, and its effects on healthy individuals, remain to be determined. The scientific community has expressed skepticism regarding the accuracy of aging clocks, and the drug is still several years away from potential regulatory approval.
