AI developer Anthropic files for public offering amid record valuation projections
Artificial intelligence firm Anthropic has filed for an initial public offering, aiming to capitalize on rapid revenue growth despite significant operational losses.

Anthropic has filed registration documents for an initial public offering scheduled for next month. The company, which develops the Claude artificial intelligence suite, reported $16.3 billion in revenue for the first half of the year, a 14-fold increase compared to the same period in 2023. Despite this growth, the firm reported net losses of $80.7 billion, largely due to accounting adjustments.
The proposed offering has generated significant market attention, with reports suggesting a potential valuation reaching as high as $2 trillion. If achieved, this would place the five-year-old firm among the most valuable companies on public markets, potentially surpassing recent capital raises by other high-profile technology firms.
The company’s prospectus highlights substantial capital expenditure requirements driven by heavy investment in computing infrastructure. Furthermore, the filing includes extensive documentation regarding risks, with 93 pages dedicated to investor warnings, including concerns regarding the potential for advanced AI systems to cause systemic harm. CEO Dario Amodei has previously stated that the industry requires a slower development pace to ensure safety protocols are sufficient.
Following the offering, the company's seven co-founders, including Dario and Daniela Amodei, will retain 50.1% of the voting power through a dedicated class of stock. While the final offering price remains subject to market conditions, the IPO represents a significant test of investor appetite for high-growth, capital-intensive AI companies.
