AI Drug Discovery Firms Attract Largest Digital Health Deals in Q2

Companies specializing in AI-driven drug discovery attracted the largest funding rounds in the second quarter, according to analysis from CB Insights. Despite a broader decline in digital health deal activity and funding, substantial investments were concentrated in AI drug discovery ventures.

Isomorphic Laboratories, for example, raised a $2.1 billion Series B round, accounting for over a third of the total quarterly funding in the digital health sector. Chai Discovery also secured a $400 million Series C round at a $3.8 billion valuation.

CB Insights reports that investors are channeling more capital into fewer, larger rounds as they seek breakthroughs in AI-powered pharmaceutical development. Overall digital health funding fell 24% to $5.7 billion in Q2, marking its lowest quarterly deal activity in over a decade.

The firm also noted other significant technology trends. Humanoid, a European developer of wheeled robots, achieved unicorn status after raising $152 million in a Series A round. Additionally, the increasing power demands from data centers are driving investment in small modular nuclear reactors as a potential energy source.
