AI Firm Cursor to Open First India Office by Year-End

US-based AI coding company Cursor is planning to establish its first physical office in India by the end of this calendar year as part of its expansion into the Indian market. "Over the course of the next five months, you will see us make some fairly significant go-to-market efforts in India," stated Simon Green, Cursor's head for Asia-Pacific and Japan.

The company has already commenced hiring remote employees in India for roles such as AI deployment, partnership management, and field engineering. A significant portion of on-site positions are targeted for the Greater Bengaluru region. Green confirmed that a physical presence in India would be visible before the year concludes.

India represents Cursor's third-largest market globally, with its user base in the country tripling to over 3 million developers in the past year. The company recently unveiled an India-only subscription plan, Cursor Start, priced at ₹649 per month.

Cursor's expansion in India comes amid increasing competition in the AI and coding space. Competitors like OpenAI and Anthropic have also been deepening their presence in the country. OpenAI previously announced plans for new offices in Mumbai and Bengaluru, while Anthropic inaugurated its India office in Bengaluru in February, naming India its second-largest market.
