AI Firm HUMXN Offers Free Home Services for Data Collection
AI lab HUMXN is offering free plumbing, electrical, and HVAC services in homes in exchange for filming rights. The collected data will be used to train AI robots.
AI laboratory HUMXN is partnering with homeowners to record the work processes of skilled tradespeople, aiming to train AI robots. The company will provide free plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and other home maintenance services to households that allow personnel equipped with wearable recording devices to film their work. This initiative seeks to capture real-world data essential for developing advanced AI systems and robots.
Thomas Unise, founder of HUMXN, stated that future AI requires more than internet-based text and images; robots need to understand physical world interactions. Skilled tradespeople perform millions of complex tasks daily, and HUMXN aims to leverage this expertise to provide economic benefits to both homeowners and service companies.
The company explains that capturing realistic work scenarios is challenging in laboratory settings. By collecting data from diverse homes, equipment types, problem situations, and environmental conditions, HUMXN can train AI models to encompass the entire workflow: from site inspection and system testing to tool selection and handling unexpected issues.
The project is launching in Minneapolis, Chicago, and Miami to gather data under varying climate conditions. HUMXN emphasizes that this direct data acquisition model contrasts with methods that scrape data from the web without explicit permission. The company compensates homeowners and ensures service professionals are paid for their work, differentiating it from past data collection practices.
