AI Firm Moonshot Faces $700M Shareholder Dispute Ahead of IPO

Chinese AI startup Moonshot is engaged in settlement discussions with shareholders ahead of its planned initial public offering in Hong Kong. The company's leadership is reportedly negotiating with Recurrent.ai and other investors regarding a stake that could exceed $700 million in value.

The dispute centers on allegations of misleading investors and the transfer or deletion of AI data. Lawyers representing Recurrent.ai sent a letter in March accusing Moonshot CEO Yang Zhilin and CTO Zhang Yutao of misconduct. These claims have not been independently verified.

The disagreement has proceeded to arbitration in Hong Kong, with the involved parties seeking compensation equivalent to 10.5% of Moonshot's original shares. Based on the company's June valuation of $30 billion, this stake represents a substantial sum.

While the dispute is not expected to derail the listing, it could complicate the IPO process. Companies listed in Hong Kong may be required to disclose material arbitration proceedings, even if they are confidential.
