Hohhot's "Artistic Jiangnan · Qingcheng Lumière et Ombre" bimonthly photography competition has ignited a public debate after its recent first-prize winner was accused of being AI-generated. The winning photograph, titled "Garden Leisure," portrays three sanitation workers resting, but critics point to garbled text on their vests as evidence of artificial intelligence manipulation.

Online discussions and shared images highlight apparent inconsistencies in the text on the workers' uniforms, suggesting they are not authentic photographs. The issue has gained significant traction on social media platforms, raising questions about the integrity of the competition's submission process.

In response to the allegations, staff from the competition's organizer, the Hohhot Federation of Literary and Art Circles, stated that an investigation is currently underway. A representative noted that while the Federation forwards and publicizes the results, it does not directly oversee the judging process. Regarding the use of AI, the staff member suggested that "photography competitions may also need to incorporate modern technology."

The competition, co-organized by the Hohhot Photographers Association, had the theme "Fun and Chance Encounters" for this period. According to publicly available information, the organizing committee centrally reviews submitted works to select winners. The rules typically stipulate that submitted works must be original photographic creations.

The organizers have committed to a thorough investigation and will publicly disclose the findings. They acknowledge the need for a process to address the situation and assure transparency in the outcome.
