AI Research Startup FYDY in Talks for $12 Million Funding Round

FYDY, a stealth-mode startup focused on frontier artificial intelligence research, is reportedly in advanced talks to secure $12 million in its inaugural funding round. Sources indicate that Lightspeed Venture Partners and General Catalyst are expected to co-lead the investment.

Founded in 2025, FYDY describes itself as a frontier AI research business developing "cognitive machines" capable of continuous learning from experience. The company's long-term objective is to create safe artificial superintelligence that can understand and operate autonomously in the real world. Its founding team includes individuals with backgrounds from competitive programming and science olympiads.

The San Francisco-headquartered startup employs staff across India and the United States. FYDY has also launched OpenScientist, an AI research studio currently in private beta. Initially built for the company's internal research, the platform assists users with tasks such as searching research papers, exploring mathematical problems, and analyzing data.

These funding discussions occur as venture capital firms continue to invest in the AI sector. Lightspeed recently led a $9 million seed round for Discovered Materials, an AI startup focused on material discovery. General Catalyst also invested $4 million in Sol Foundry, a company building an AI assistant.

According to Inc42's Q3 2026 Indian Tech Startup Funding Report, AI startups attracted $438 million across 35 deals, making it the most funded sector. While overall funding saw significant year-over-year growth, capital was largely concentrated in startups developing AI applications. FYDY and the potential investors did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
