Jaipur-based startup Aignosis is extending the reach of its AI-assisted tool designed to screen children for autism-related signs using a laptop webcam. Having already completed over 8,000 screenings in more than 20 primary health centers in Rajasthan, the company has secured seed funding and obtained regulatory approval.

Through a collaboration with the Apollo SHINE Foundation, Aignosis plans to deploy its screener in approximately 125 schools, aiming for 100,000 screenings by the end of the 2026-27 academic year. The company states it has completed the CDSCO regulatory process and received Class B certification for the device.

During the screening, a child views on-screen stimuli while the webcam analyzes behavioral markers like gaze response and reactions to facial expressions. A risk report is generated, which may or may not recommend a formal clinical assessment. Aignosis clarifies the tool is a screener, not a diagnostic system, intended for children aged 16 months to nine years.

The expansion into school settings raises questions regarding parental consent and the potential for false positives or negatives. Publicly available data has not fully detailed how parents are informed or consent is obtained, nor has it specified the tool's error rates.
