Airbnb is also adding a travel map feature, enabling users to see where their connections have traveled or plan to go. Users have the option to opt out of this feature for privacy reasons.
Experts view this move as strategic. Marketplace companies face a challenge where revenue is generated only through transactions, and most individuals only require a vacation rental a few times a year. Social features provide Airbnb with a reason to engage users within the app during the daydreaming phase, not just when they are ready to book.
The company also stated it is enhancing AI-powered tools for hosts, offering them greater control, clearer insights, and more time to focus on hospitality. Additionally, new services such as meal and grocery delivery, and rentals for baby gear have been added to the platform.
