Airbound Raises $37 Million to Scale Drone Manufacturing

Indian drone technology startup Airbound has raised $37 million (approximately ₹355 crore) in a Series A funding round led by US-based investment firm Greenoaks.

The round saw participation from new and existing investors, including food delivery major DoorDash, Physical Intelligence cofounder Lachy Groom, Lightspeed, and Humba Ventures. Airbound plans to use the funds to accelerate engineering, commercial-scale manufacturing, and go-to-market initiatives.

Founded in 2023 by Naman Pushp, Airbound designs and manufactures autonomous drones for goods transportation. The company's flagship TRT drone weighs about 2.5 kg, can carry a 1 kg payload, and has a range of approximately 40 km. Airbound also operates a proprietary flight control system, RUDRA, which it claims enables a single operator to manage over 100 drones.

Airbound has previously partnered with hospital chain Narayana Health for transporting diagnostic samples, reducing transit times from hours to minutes. The new funding will be crucial for scaling production and achieving cost reductions per delivery.

With the new investment, Airbound plans to expand its drone delivery network in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, aiming for 10,000 daily flights. The network will support deliveries across healthcare, e-commerce, and retail sectors.
