Airtel Launches IQ Gateway for Enterprise Messaging

Airtel Business has launched Airtel IQ Gateway, a platform that consolidates enterprise messaging across SMS, WhatsApp, RCS, and voice channels.

7 October 2026

Airtel Business has introduced Airtel IQ Gateway, an all-in-one platform designed to manage enterprise customer communications across multiple channels including SMS, WhatsApp, RCS, and voice. The platform also features silent authentication, intended to enhance fraud protection by not relying on traditional one-time passwords (OTP).

The platform was launched nationwide following trial deployments with select banks and financial institutions. However, Airtel has not disclosed performance metrics or results from these trials, leaving the independent validation of its network-level intelligence systems uncertain. The company plans to showcase the platform at the India Mobile Congress in New Delhi.

Airtel aims to provide enterprises with a single point of control for their customer communications, reducing reliance on multiple external vendors for different services. This move also potentially decreases Airtel's dependence on intermediaries for bulk business messaging. By offering a developer-facing, API-driven product, Airtel is positioning itself as a direct participant in the CPaaS (Communication Platform as a Service) market, competing with established players.

A key feature is Silent Authentication, which Airtel claims can replace OTPs for login and SIM-binding processes. It verifies that the entered phone number matches the active SIM in the device, aiming to mitigate risks associated with SIM swapping and social engineering. This capability is timely given upcoming Indian regulations mandating SIM binding for communication platforms by December 2026.

The platform also seeks to prevent misuse of message templates for spam and combat SMS pumping, where artificially generated traffic can inflate business costs. Airtel IQ Gateway enters a competitive CPaaS landscape, offering deployment flexibility for businesses, including on-premises or cloud-hosted SaaS options.
