Akiem Orders 100 Traxx Locomotives from Alstom

Akiem, a European rolling stock leasing company, has finalized a framework agreement with Alstom for the supply of 100 Traxx Universal multi-system locomotives (MS3). The firm order comprises 65 locomotives, with the total value of the framework agreement potentially reaching up to 500 million euros. This contract underscores Akiem's market position in locomotive leasing and its ambition to expand rail services across Europe.

The new locomotives are designed for multi-system operation, capable of handling both freight and passenger services at speeds up to 160 km/h. They will be deployed across 12 European countries, including Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia. A portion of the order will feature the 'last mile' capability, allowing access to ports, terminals, and industrial sites without the need for a shunting locomotive.

All locomotives will be equipped with Alstom's ATLAS onboard signaling system, which supports the European Train Control System (ETCS). This system offers broad compatibility with various national and European railway standards, utilizing a robust 'two-out-of-three' architecture for enhanced reliability.

Akiem stated that this order signifies its commitment to modernizing rail freight and passenger transport in France and Europe. The acquisition is expected to facilitate new, efficient routes across the continent and support the modal shift towards rail transport.
