Aktion Deutschland Hilft and WDR Launch Joint Campaign Against Global Hunger

Aktion Deutschland Hilft, an alliance of over 20 aid organizations, is partnering with German public broadcaster WDR for a joint fundraising campaign titled "Der Westen Hilft. Gemeinsam gegen den Hunger in der Welt" (The West Helps. Together Against Hunger in the World).

The campaign, running from November 28 to December 22, aims to draw attention to the global hunger crisis. This initiative follows similar successful campaigns in the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Austria.

Throughout the campaign period, WDR will integrate programming focused on world hunger into its schedule. A key event will be "WDR 2 Weihnachtswunder," a live broadcast from a glass studio on Dortmund's Christmas market from December 18-22, featuring guests from politics, society, and sports. Listeners can request songs in exchange for donations.

The fundraising effort will culminate in a WDR television gala on December 22, showcasing specific aid projects for those affected by hunger. The collected funds will support 48 selected projects aimed at alleviating hunger globally. An estimated 828 million people currently suffer from hunger, with the situation exacerbated by climate change, the pandemic, and the war in Ukraine.
