Aktion Deutschland Hilft Launches Application for Humanitarian Journalism Award

Aktion Deutschland Hilft, an alliance of German aid organizations, has opened applications for its Humanitarian Journalism Award. The initiative aims to foster humanitarian journalism in Germany and encourage innovative reporting.

Young journalists aged 21 to 35 are invited to apply for travel grants to develop journalistic projects on humanitarian aid. Up to eight journalists will be selected to receive grants, allowing them to travel to international aid projects and gain in-depth insights into the field.

The program encourages participants to explore new reporting methods, including cross-media and multimedia formats, and novel storytelling approaches. Nominated journalists will have the opportunity to engage directly with those affected by crises and aid workers, aiming to produce authentic and multifaceted accounts.

A jury of five experts from journalism and the humanitarian sector will evaluate the submissions. Supported by the German Federal Foreign Office, the award has been presented since 2015 to recognize journalistic work that sheds new light on complex humanitarian issues.
