"Aktion Deutschland Hilft" Names Recipients for Travel Stipends

Bonn, Germany – September 21, 2015 – "Aktion Deutschland Hilft" (Action Germany Helps) has identified six young journalists who will receive travel stipends to visit humanitarian aid projects worldwide starting in November. The participants, aged 25 to 31, were selected from 39 applicants across Germany.

The chosen journalists will travel to Kenya/Somalia, Jordan, Lebanon, the Philippines, Nepal, and Guatemala. Their objective is to gain firsthand insights into aid projects and interact with beneficiaries and aid workers. They are tasked with creating digital stories to raise awareness about humanitarian aid issues. Several member organizations of "Aktion Deutschland Hilft," including AWO International, arche noVa, and CARE Deutschland-Luxemburg, are supporting the initiative.

Christoph Strässer, former German government commissioner for human rights policy and humanitarian aid and patron of the competition, expressed his anticipation for the nominees' contributions in portraying the realities faced by people in need. He highlighted the competition's aim to foster solidarity and humanity through journalistic work.

The final submissions will be evaluated by a jury, with the winner of the first Humanitarian Aid Young Journalist Award to be honored in May 2016. The top two winners will earn a place at the World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul.
