The non-governmental organization Aktion Deutschland Hilft has published an infographic explaining the diverse causes that lead people to flee their homes. Titled "Why Do People Flee?", the infographic compiles factors such as war, violence, poverty, persecution, and the consequences of climate change, which collectively drive millions of people from their homelands.

As of 2026, over 117 million people worldwide were displaced. The primary countries of origin include Venezuela, Ukraine, Syria, Afghanistan, and Sudan.
