Aktion Deutschland Hilft supports Ukraine refugees and internally displaced persons
A coalition of 21 aid organizations, Aktion Deutschland Hilft, is providing humanitarian assistance to people fleeing Ukraine and those within the country. Aid is being delivered both inside Ukraine and to neighboring countries.

As millions have fled Ukraine and many remain displaced internally, a coalition of 21 aid organizations under Aktion Deutschland Hilft is providing comprehensive humanitarian aid. These efforts support both those remaining in Ukraine and refugees in neighboring countries.
An example of aid delivery comes from Malteser International, represented by Katharina Kiecol. The organization is active in Germany, frontline states like Poland, Hungary, and Romania, and within Ukraine itself. Their assistance includes medical and psychological support, accommodation, food and hot drinks, and the delivery of medical supplies and food into Ukraine. Malteser International also coordinates on-the-ground efforts.
Kiecol identifies the constantly shifting circumstances as the primary challenge. Daily assessments are necessary to determine the number of arrivals, areas under attack, and available transit routes for aid within Ukraine. "The situation is different from a natural disaster where needs can be identified relatively quickly," she stated.
Looking ahead, the organization emphasizes the need for reliable humanitarian corridors and safe access for aid workers. "We need stamina and must not slacken in our aid," Kiecol urged, referencing the anticipated long-term nature of the crisis and the subsequent reconstruction needs. Sid Peruvemba from action medeor described weekly medical supply shipments to Ternopil, Ukraine, and support for over 100,000 Ukrainian refugees in Moldova. Key challenges include rapid procurement of medicines, secure transport, and humanitarian access to all populations, including those in occupied territories. Adherence to international humanitarian law by all parties is stressed.
