AkzoNobel launches self-cleaning exterior coating for China's urban renewal market

AkzoNobel, a global paints and coatings company, has launched a new self-cleaning extrusion coating in China, named TRINAR® SC Series. This product is specifically developed for China's urban renewal market, addressing a growing demand for advanced façade solutions.

The coating features hydrophilic self-cleaning technology. When rainwater encounters the coated surface, it spreads out and helps wash away dust and stains from exterior walls. AkzoNobel states this capability can significantly reduce the need for manual cleaning of high-rise buildings, thereby lowering maintenance costs and decreasing the usage of water, chemicals, and other resources.

The TRINAR® SC Series is targeted at high-end commercial building projects, particularly those with complex curved façades, irregular architectural designs, and challenging curtain wall geometries. The coating has also achieved certification to the international AAMA 2605 weatherability standard, promising durable surface protection and sustained aesthetic appeal.

Long-term on-site testing has been conducted at an office building project in Dongying Economic Development Zone, with the coating demonstrating consistent self-cleaning performance. Additionally, it has been applied to premium projects such as 16 Man On Street in Hong Kong. AkzoNobel positions this launch as a contribution to meeting new operational and maintenance challenges within China's evolving construction sector, promoting more sustainable building operations.
