Alaunos Therapeutics Reports Early Data From TCR-T Cell Therapy Trial

Alaunos Therapeutics, a clinical-stage cell therapy company, released early clinical data in September 2022 from the first patient in its TCR-T cell therapy Phase 1/2 trial. The data were presented at the CRI-ENCI-AACR Sixth International Cancer Immunotherapy Conference.

The company reported that the first patient, diagnosed with previously treated non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), achieved a confirmed partial response. Tumor regression was 51.2% at 12 weeks, with ongoing T-cell persistence observed. The therapy, utilizing the company's proprietary "Sleeping Beauty" technology, achieved this result even at the lowest dose levels in the study design.

The TCR-T cell therapy demonstrated a manageable safety profile, with no dose-limiting toxicities observed. The patient experienced a Grade 2 cytokine release syndrome (CRS), which resolved without intervention, and Grade 4 thrombocytopenia and Grade 3 anemia, attributed to the lymphodepletion regimen.

Alaunos Therapeutics stated that these results are encouraging and highlight the potential of TCR-T cell therapy for treating solid tumors. The company plans to continue enrolling patients and gathering further data in the trial, which targets patients with specific HLA and mutation pairings matching its TCR library.
