Alfa Laval pushes energy efficiency at Climate Week NYC
Alfa Laval's North America President Jan Debruyn participated in Climate Week NYC 2026, advocating for energy efficiency's role in competitiveness and accelerating the energy transition.
Alfa Laval participated in Climate Week NYC 2026 last week, advancing discussions around energy efficiency, competitiveness, and resilience in accelerating the energy transition.
Jan Debruyn, President of Alfa Laval North America, represented the company and emphasized that energy efficiency must be a foundational principle and a business imperative for the energy transition. He stated that companies can enhance competitiveness and build more resilient systems by prioritizing energy efficiency. "The opportunity is not only to improve individual technologies but to intentionally design systems and processes to consume less energy from the start," Debruyn said.
The event highlighted the need to move from long-term commitments to accelerated implementation. Energy efficiency is increasingly viewed through the lenses of competitiveness, affordability, and energy security, driving demand for solutions that deliver measurable results today. Debruyn noted that the technologies exist, and success hinges on collaboration between industry, finance, policymakers, and technology providers.
Alfa Laval also reinforced the connection between electrification and energy efficiency. While electrification is key, it requires significant investment in power generation and grids. Improving efficiency alongside electrification can reduce overall energy demand, enhance affordability, and enable infrastructure to support growth. The company is backing these efforts with investments in North America, including an expansion of its Richmond, Virginia facility.
The company sees energy efficiency as a practical pathway for industries navigating rising costs, infrastructure constraints, and pressure to reduce emissions without compromising competitiveness. Alfa Laval stressed the importance of partnerships for the next phase of the transition, aiming to translate discussions into tangible projects and investments.
