Alfa Laval to supply heat transfer technology for Swedish carbon capture project
Alfa Laval will supply heat transfer equipment for Stockholm Exergi's large-scale Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS) project in Sweden, contracted via Saipem. Operations are set to begin in 2028.

Alfa Laval has been selected by Saipem to provide heat transfer equipment for Stockholm Exergi's significant Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS) project in Sweden. Saipem is acting as the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor for the facility.
The project, scheduled to commence operations in 2028, aims to capture, liquefy, and permanently store up to 800,000 tonnes of biogenic carbon dioxide annually. This volume represents an estimated 1–2% of current global carbon capture capacity.
Alfa Laval will supply its Ziepack gas-gas interchanger and several plate-and-frame heat exchangers, which are integral to the core CO₂ separation process. The equipment is designed to recover energy used during the separation and liquefaction stages.
The recovered heat will be returned to Stockholm's district heating system, enhancing the overall efficiency of the carbon capture process. The facility is being developed at Stockholm Exergi's biomass-based combined heat and power plant and supports Sweden's climate neutrality goals and broader EU climate objectives.
