Ali Hussain Built Fintech Tabs Into A $400M Startup
Tabs, an AI startup automating finance and accounting, has raised approximately $90 million and achieved a $400 million valuation. Founder Ali Hussain comes from a non-technical background.

New York-based AI startup Tabs has secured around $90 million in funding and reached a $400 million valuation, according to founder Ali Hussain.
Hussain, whose parents were first-generation immigrants from Pakistan, grew up working in his family's convenience store in St. Paul, Minnesota. He pursued a humanities degree at Cornell University, followed by doctoral studies at Oxford. However, he left academia to enter management consulting at The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and later joined the tech industry.
He spent six years at Latch, an early-stage startup, where he gained significant experience in building venture-backed companies. This operational background informed his decision to found Tabs in 2023, a company focused on automating financial processes like revenue recognition and billing using AI.
Hussain believes his non-traditional background fosters resilience and encourages unconventional approaches to learning and problem-solving. He co-founded Tabs with Deepak Bapat, who provides the technical expertise to complement Hussain's commercial and operational vision.
The company now employs approximately 180 people and has experienced rapid growth since its inception. Tabs has attracted investment from notable firms including Primary Venture Partners and One Way Ventures.
