Alibaba Cloud cuts AI data center delivery time to 100 days

Alibaba Cloud has announced a significant reduction in the delivery time for large-scale AI data centers (AIDC), bringing it down to 100 days from the previous timeline of nearly a year. This acceleration is achieved through a fully modular design architecture.

The new method shifts construction from on-site, sequential building to a factory-based production of standardized components. These modules are then transported and assembled on-site, allowing for parallel processes that drastically cut down construction time. Alibaba Cloud reports that this modular approach also reduces overall construction costs by more than 10% compared to traditional methods.

This speed is crucial amid the surging demand for AI computing power. As AI models and applications scale, the ability to deploy the necessary infrastructure quickly becomes a key competitive differentiator for cloud providers. Failure to build data centers at pace risks leaving expensive hardware, like GPUs, idle.

Looking ahead, Alibaba Cloud plans to more than double the global production capacity of its modular data centers in 2026. This indicates a broader industry trend of treating data center construction less like bespoke engineering projects and more like scalable, replicable products.
