Alibaba Cloud expands European footprint with new Amsterdam data center

Alibaba Cloud has launched its first data center region in the Netherlands, marking the company's fourth new international region and 12th availability zone opened this year.

2 November 2026

Alibaba Cloud officially activated its Amsterdam region on October 20, providing local enterprises with computing, storage, networking, and database infrastructure. The site is structured into two availability zones and serves as the company's fourth European hub, following established operations in Frankfurt, London, and Paris.

This deployment responds to rising demand for AI-specific cloud services and regional infrastructure across Europe. While the initial suite includes standard cloud offerings, Alibaba Cloud plans to integrate its proprietary enterprise-grade AI services into the Amsterdam facility as part of a phased rollout.

The Amsterdam opening is part of a broader expansion strategy that saw Alibaba Cloud add 12 availability zones globally over the past year, including new regions in Malaysia, France, and Brazil. Looking ahead, the company has announced plans for further infrastructure projects in Turkey and Finland, alongside planned capacity upgrades in Germany, the UAE, Malaysia, and Hong Kong.
