Alibaba Qwen previews N1 AI glasses with iris recognition

Alibaba's Qwen unit previewed a new AI glasses model, the N1, at the AI payment section of the 2026 Bund Summit in Shanghai. While the glasses were largely covered at the exhibition, they are anticipated to incorporate iris recognition technology.

Reports suggest the false recognition rate for the iris scanning will be below one in one million. The technology could also integrate eye-tracking capabilities, allowing users to verify their identity simply by looking at a payment terminal.

A key feature of the N1 appears to be the absence of a display, which could differentiate it from previous models and potentially lower production costs compared to Qwen's S1 glasses. Alibaba has not yet released full specifications, pricing, or a confirmed launch date for the N1.

The development indicates a continued push into biometric payment solutions, with Qwen aiming to leverage eye-based identification for seamless transactions.
