Alibaba Releases New AI Model Amid US Competition
Chinese tech giant Alibaba has launched its largest and most capable AI model to date. The company claims its performance rivals leading systems from US and domestic competitors.

Chinese technology firm Alibaba has released a new artificial intelligence model, which it states is its largest and most capable to date.
The company claims that the Qwen3.8-Max model's performance rivals leading systems from US-based companies Anthropic and OpenAI, as well as domestic competitor Moonshot AI's Kimi K3. Alibaba announced the model's broad availability to users in a blog post published on Monday.
This release of another advanced Chinese AI model intensifies competition in the sector, amid existing technological tensions between the US and China.
The model's release had been anticipated, following a preview last month where Alibaba stated it was "second only to Fable 5," Anthropic's flagship. The rapid advancement in AI models highlights China's push to remain competitive on the global stage.
