Alibaba's Amap open-sources 3D reconstruction model for video

Alibaba's mapping unit Amap has released ABot-Recon, an open-source 3D reconstruction model capable of processing only 12 consecutive video frames to reconstruct scenes spanning over 10,000 frames in real time. The model was made available on August 28.

The project includes the model and its implementation for developers. It is designed to maintain stable reconstruction over long video sequences without relying on a large historical memory window, providing researchers with a new tool for applications in autonomous driving, robotics, and 3D scene understanding.

Amap stated the model offers a more efficient and scalable approach to 3D reconstruction, a capability crucial for developing technologies like autonomous vehicles and robotics that require precise and immediate environmental perception.

The model is available to developers under an open-source license, aiming to foster broader adoption and further development within the research and developer community.
