Alimentiv Inc., a global gastrointestinal clinical research organization, and the International Bowel Ultrasound Group (IBUS) e.V. have expanded their exclusive partnership to further advance the use of bowel ultrasound (BU) in clinical research. The collaboration introduces IUS-STAR, a standardized training and certification program for ultrasound professionals involved in clinical trials.

The IUS-STAR program, which stands for IUS Standardized Training and Acquisition for Research, aims to accelerate site activation and increase the availability of qualified BU operators worldwide. It combines online learning with practical image acquisition and expert feedback to ensure high-quality, protocol-compliant imaging for clinical trial outcomes.

Stephanie Gonzalez, Chief Operating Officer at Alimentiv, stated that IUS-STAR leverages IBUS's scientific leadership and Alimentiv's global operational infrastructure, including its Notō Case Manager technology for image review and quality control. This integration is expected to speed up site setup and expand the number of clinical trial-ready sites for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) studies.

According to Kerri Novak, President of IBUS, bowel ultrasound is a significant advancement due to its reproducibility and patient tolerance, offering comprehensive assessment of the bowel. The technology can improve patient identification for active disease and facilitate easier participation in clinical trials, while also advancing the understanding of disease processes and therapeutic response.

Since forming their partnership in 2022, Alimentiv and IBUS have brought bowel ultrasound expertise to clinical trials in over 34 countries. They remain committed to promoting education, standardization, and innovation in BU to support researchers, study sites, sponsors, and ultimately, patients with gastrointestinal conditions.
