Aliplast acquires majority stake in Polish polymer recycling company

Aliplast, an entity of the Hera Group, is further consolidating its leadership in high-quality plastic recycling with the acquisition of a 70% stake in Kronos Polymer Polska. This new company will be formed through a carve-out from Kronos Polymer, a Polish firm specializing in polyethylene (PE) recycling and processing.

The newly established industrial site for Kronos Polymer is located in Gniew, Pomerania, approximately 300 kilometers from Aliplast Polska's existing facility in Tuszyn. The plant is equipped with a complete system for sorting, grinding, and purifying PE, boasting an installed production capacity of 12,000 tons per year. This acquisition will enable Aliplast to gradually expand into the local market, optimizing operations and logistics for recycling and processing.

This transaction, combined with ongoing projects in Italy such as the complex for rigid plastics in Modena and the new LDPE recycling plant in Borgolavezzaro, will strengthen industrial synergies within the group. Aliplast anticipates increased flexibility in recycling and a doubling of its capacity to over 210,000 tons annually.

Aliplast's strategic focus includes expanding production capacities, particularly in foreign markets, and ensuring the quality and traceability of recycled materials. The company aims to meet the specific needs of the European market, leveraging its established presence in countries like France and Spain. These moves are particularly strategic given the introduction of new European regulations for packaging waste management under the PPWR directive, which aims to reduce environmental impact and promote a circular economy.

The acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions, including the finalization of the carve-out and the transfer of environmental permits, with completion expected by the end of 2026. Michele Petrone, CEO of Aliplast, stated that the deal aligns with the Hera Group's strategy to prioritize resource recovery and expand its presence in Poland to capitalize on growing demand for recycled plastics.
