Alkagesta-Backed Clean Caspian Completes Phase I of Oil Spill Remediation Research
Clean Caspian, an environmental research initiative backed by Alkagesta, has completed Phase I of its oil spill remediation technology development. Two chemical formulants were identified in initial laboratory tests.
Alkagesta, an international energy and commodity trading house, has announced the successful completion of Phase I for Clean Caspian, an environmental research startup focused on developing technologies for oil spill remediation.
The initiative, supported by Alkagesta as part of its ESG strategy, concluded its initial laboratory testing phase. This phase focused on identifying effective chemical formulants for oil spill management.
Phase I identified two primary formulants: Oil-Collecting Reagent 1, designed to localize and contain thin oil films, and Flocculant-Coagulant 1, aimed at destabilizing oil-in-water emulsions to improve separation. This offers a two-stage approach to spill response.
The research was conducted by Aynura Mammadova from the University of Padova and Narmin Ismayilova from Baku Engineering University. Their work aims to translate scientific research into practical environmental solutions, with an emphasis on sustainable methods.
With Phase I complete, the Clean Caspian team will proceed to optimize the formulants, conduct further environmental condition testing, and advance the patent application process.
