The Alliance for OpenUSD (AOUSD) announced new general members, including ByteDance and Huawei, and is advancing the international standardization of its core specification. The group aims to solidify OpenUSD as a foundational layer for 3D data across industries.

San Francisco, CA โ July 21, 2026 โ The Alliance for OpenUSD (AOUSD) has announced significant progress in global 3D data interoperability and agentic AI workflows with the addition of new general members ByteDance, Huawei, Physicl, and Unity. These companies will contribute to establishing OpenUSD as a foundational 3D data layer across enterprise software, gaming, and simulation pipelines.
The organization has also initiated the ISO certification process for its Core Specification 1.1. This move is a critical step towards international standardization, aiming to reduce procurement friction for organizations in regulated industries. Furthermore, AOUSD has launched a public GitHub repository, allowing developers direct and transparent input into the specification's evolution.
OpenUSD is emerging as a key data layer for agentic AI workflows. Demonstrations from Cesium, PTC, and NVIDIA highlight how AI agents can understand, navigate, and modify 3D environments built upon the Core Specification, showcasing its potential for advanced AI applications.
AOUSD and its member companies, including Pixar, NVIDIA, Autodesk, and Epic Games, are scheduled to present at SIGGRAPH 2026 in Los Angeles from July 19โ23. Sessions will cover topics such as USD production workflows, composition, and rendering techniques.
