Allianz Trade: AI-driven growth reshapes global trade patterns
Global trade in AI-enabling goods has doubled since 2014, now accounting for 15% of total world trade, according to new research.

A report from Allianz Trade highlights the deepening integration between artificial intelligence and international trade flows. Export volumes of AI-enabling goods reached USD 3.8 trillion in 2025, up from USD 1.9 trillion in 2014, growing significantly faster than total global goods trade.
Asia maintains a central position in the supply chain, accounting for 65% of global AI-related exports. Countries such as Taiwan and South Korea have seen accelerated growth into early 2026. Conversely, the United States has tripled its imports of AI-related products since 2023, largely due to domestic investments in cloud capacity and data center infrastructure.
The report warns that the current concentration of AI supply chains creates vulnerability. Regions heavily dependent on AI-related exports, such as Taiwan and Hong Kong, face significant risks should market demand fluctuate. Additionally, the industry remains sensitive to supply-side shocks, with regional instabilities in the Middle East posing potential threats to semiconductor pricing and energy availability.
