Allianz Trade outlines strategic considerations for invoice finance adoption

Invoice finance serves as a mechanism for companies to access capital tied up in unpaid invoices. By selling or discounting receivables to a third-party provider, businesses can bridge liquidity gaps caused by extended payment terms, typically receiving 70% to 90% of an invoice value within 48 hours.

Corporate Development Manager Adam Stevens at Allianz Trade UK & Ireland noted that the financing method is vital for growing companies, particularly when traditional bank lending remains constrained. He highlighted that firms with significant capital locked in 60-day payment cycles are often the primary users of these products to maintain operational agility.

The choice between factoring and invoice discounting involves distinct administrative trade-offs. In factoring arrangements, the service provider assumes responsibility for credit control and payment collection, which can reduce internal overhead but may impact customer relationships. Conversely, invoice discounting allows companies to retain control over their accounts receivable processes.

The sector is currently seeing diversification through fintech entrants and hybrid models like Customer Handles Own Credit Control (CHOCC). These products aim to offer flexibility for businesses that require occasional financing or wish to maintain control over their collection processes without the high administrative burden of traditional factoring.
