Allianz Trade supports credit risks for low-carbon technologies

London – Allianz Trade is enhancing its specialty credit insurance offerings to bolster the development and deployment of low-carbon technologies, which are critical for the global energy transition.

The company aims to assist corporations and financial institutions in managing credit risks within nascent and developing low-carbon markets. This support facilitates investments in areas such as renewable energy, battery storage, and carbon capture technologies.

Allianz Trade's specialty credit insurance covers various stages of the supply chain. These solutions can protect against credit risks in trade between businesses or in loan repayments, as seen in the financing of EV charging infrastructure companies or in contracts for large electricity grid projects. The insurance can also shield the lending bank or the exporting company from non-payment risks.

Furthermore, the company insures project-specific financing risks, including long-term investments in wind farms or carbon capture projects. Underwriters often assess these risks over a 15-year horizon. Insurance is also provided for sovereign or multilateral risks, such as financing for banks in emerging markets supported by the IFC, a member of the World Bank Group.
