Alpenhaus: Family Business Continues Kitzbühel Mountain Restaurant Tradition

The Alpenhaus, a mountain restaurant in Kitzbühel situated at 1,670 meters on the Kitzbüheler Horn, continues its long-standing tradition under the Reisch family's ownership for over 130 years. Accessible via the Hornbahn cable car or the new panoramic road, the establishment is noted for its expansive sun terrace and three traditional tiled stoves.

Currently led by Franz and Ursula Reisch, the operation is being passed down to their children, Franziska and Hans-Peter, representing the fourth and fifth generations of the family. The restaurant serves regional specialties such as Wiener Schnitzel, house-smoked bacon, and spinach dumplings, alongside popular desserts like Kaiserschmarrn and homemade cakes.

Beyond its alpine setting and food offerings, the Alpenhaus holds historical significance. It was first acquired by ski pioneer Franz Reisch in 1883. While operated as a hotel in its second generation, Ernst Reisch transitioned it into a day-operation facility in the third generation and saw the construction of the panoramic road in 1965.

The younger generation, Franziska and Hans-Peter, have been involved in the business since childhood and are now integral to its management. Their dedication and comprehensive tourism training ensure the Alpenhaus remains a favored destination for sports enthusiasts, gourmands, and families alike.
