Alstom begins rolling stock production for Bhopal & Indore metro project at Savli

Alstom has commenced production of its modern Movia metro passenger trains at its rolling stock manufacturing facility in Savli, Gujarat, India. These trains are designated for the Bhopal and Indore metro projects. Under the contract, Alstom will supply 156 metro cars to the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL), including 15 years of comprehensive maintenance.

The ceremony marking the project's commencement was held at Alstom’s Savli facility, with virtual participation from Shri Bhupendra Singh, Minister for Urban Development and Housing, Government of Madhya Pradesh, along with officials from MPMRCL and Alstom India. State authorities and company leadership marked the launch of the order, which is expected to benefit over 5.7 million people across both cities.

A total of 52 trainsets, each configured with three cars, will be delivered – 27 for Bhopal and 25 for Indore. The trains are designed for a top speed of 80 km/h and will operate on Bhopal's 31 km line and Indore's 31.5 km line. This marks Alstom's second combined order in India, following the Agra and Kanpur metro projects, valued at €387 million, and includes several years of maintenance.

Alstom has a track record of delivering metro trains for major Indian cities, including Delhi, Chennai, and Mumbai. The company's robust industrial presence in India, comprising six production sites and four engineering centers, supports both domestic and international projects. Alstom is also currently manufacturing metro trains for Agra and Kanpur, as well as for Mumbai Metro Line 3.
