Alstom commits to science-based emissions targets
Railway manufacturer Alstom has committed to setting science-based greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets, becoming the first in its sector to do so.

Alstom, a manufacturer of rail transport equipment, announced its commitment to establish science-based targets (SBTi) for greenhouse gas emissions reduction. This move positions Alstom as the first in the railway manufacturing industry to join the initiative, which aims to guide companies in their carbon emission reduction efforts and align them with the goals of the Paris Agreement.
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) provides a framework for companies to set ambitious greenhouse gas reduction targets in line with climate science. It ensures that companies' strategies are consistent with limiting global warming to well below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.
Alstom will now refine its targets based on its strategy and develop a methodology to demonstrate alignment with the Paris Agreement trajectory through internationally recognized transport scenarios. These targets will then be submitted to the SBTi for validation. The SBTi's input and recommendations will help further integrate climate science into Alstom's strategy.
In conjunction with this commitment, Alstom also aims to utilize 100% renewable electricity by 2025. Furthermore, the company has set a goal to reduce the energy consumption of its solutions by 25% by 2025 and to eco-design all newly developed solutions by the same year.
