Alstom completes REM extension to Montreal's West Island
Alstom has completed the extension of the Réseau express métropolitain (REM) automated metro system to Montreal's West Island. The new 14-kilometer segment adds four stations and connects Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue to the network.

Alstom is celebrating the commissioning of the new Réseau express métropolitain (REM) branch to Montreal’s West Island, Canada. The extension adds 14 kilometers and four new stations to the existing 50-kilometer automated network, bringing the total length to 64 kilometers and 23 stations.
The new branch connects the city of Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue to the rest of the REM network, offering residents a sustainable alternative to car travel. The system operates 20 hours a day, with trains running every four minutes on the central section during peak hours, providing an efficient connection to downtown Montreal.
Alstom supplied the complete driverless light metro system, including 212 Metropolis rolling stock vehicles and advanced signalling systems. The company, through its joint venture Pulsar, is also responsible for the operation and maintenance of the network for 30 years, ensuring long-term performance and reliability.
"We are extremely proud to contribute to the opening of this new branch, which significantly improves daily mobility for residents across the metropolitan region," said Michael Keroullé, President of Alstom Americas. He added that the project demonstrates Alstom's ability to deliver complex, large-scale turnkey transportation systems.
