Alstom Delivers America's Fastest Trains for Amtrak's NextGen Acela Service

Alstom has introduced Amtrak's NextGen Acela trains into service along the Northeast Corridor, operating at speeds up to 160 miles per hour. This makes the trains the fastest in the United States and marks a significant upgrade for one of the nation's busiest rail lines.

The new trainsets were manufactured by Alstom in Hornell, New York. The project involved a domestic supply chain of 180 businesses across 29 states, with over 95% of components sourced domestically. This initiative aims to revitalize the American rail industry.

Each of the 28 new trains offers a 27% increase in seating capacity compared to Amtrak's previous Acela fleet. The trains feature enhanced comfort amenities and advanced technologies designed to improve energy efficiency, ride quality, and reliability for passengers.

Alstom CEO Henri Poupart-Lafarge stated that the NextGen Acelas are the first high-speed trains built in America, leveraging the company's nearly five decades of global high-speed rail experience. He acknowledged Amtrak, the Federal Railroad Administration, and the Department of Transportation for their partnership and support.

Michael Keroullé, President of Alstom Americas, highlighted the significance of domestic innovation and job creation. Amtrak President Roger Harris described the debut as the start of a "new era" for American high-speed rail service.
