Alstom delivers first trainset for Meerut Metro project
Alstom has delivered the first domestically manufactured trainset for India's Meerut Metro. The project aims to improve urban transit and connectivity with the regional rapid rail network.
Alstom has handed over the first metro trainset for the Meerut Metro project to the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC). The train, produced at the company's manufacturing facility in Savli, Gujarat, is part of a 2020 contract for 210 rail cars intended for the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) network.
The upcoming 25-km metro line will connect Partapur to Modipuram, serving 11 stations. Beyond providing internal city transit, the line is designed to function as a feeder system for the RRTS, which connects Delhi and Meerut. Alstom is slated to provide 30 coaches in total, configured as ten three-car trainsets.
Based on Alstom’s Adessia platform, the trains are designed for an operational speed of 120 km/h. Olivier Loison, Managing Director of Alstom India, stated that the delivery reflects ongoing efforts to modernize rail infrastructure in the region. The project is expected to enhance both intra-city commuting and inter-city connectivity.
