Alstom evolves Avelia Stream high-speed train platform

Alstom is continuing the evolution of its Avelia Stream high-speed train range, a successor to the historical Pendolino technology that originated in the 1970s. The current platform features a distributed traction architecture, designed to provide flexibility for various global rail operators.

The manufacturer is currently prioritizing the optimization of passenger capacity and the reduction of total cost of ownership per seat. Alstom notes that these metrics are critical for new market entrants attempting to build robust business cases for high-speed rail services, a sector currently seeing increased investment in Europe and the United States.

To date, over 500 units from the series have been sold across 15 countries. Production and ongoing development continue at the company's facility in Savigliano, Italy, where the original tilting train technology was first implemented.
