Alstom Extends Long-Term Partnership with Saudi Railways for Freight Performance
Alstom and Saudi Arabian Railways (SAR) have signed a five-year contract aimed at enhancing the reliability and performance of freight transport services across the Kingdom.
Paris, France – Alstom, a global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, has solidified its long-term partnership with Saudi Arabian Railways (SAR). The two entities have entered into a five-year contract valued at €22 million, focused on improving the daily reliability and performance of SAR's "North Freight" fleet operating within the Kingdom.
The agreement specifically targets the maintenance of the on-board systems for SAR's freight locomotives. These systems are critical for daily operations, including train performance monitoring, speed management, and communication with signaling infrastructure. Alstom will provide its "FlexCare Perform" maintenance services to ensure the continued functionality of these essential systems.
The north-south rail corridor is a vital artery for Saudi Arabia's logistics network. It connects mining sites with processing facilities and export terminals, moving approximately 13.5 million tons of freight annually and playing a key role in supporting the Kingdom's industrial activities.
Mohamed Khalil, Alstom's Managing Director for the Middle East, stated that the partnership with SAR is built on a shared ambition to boost rail performance and support the Kingdom's long-term transportation objectives. This contract is expected to improve the efficiency and dependability of freight operations throughout Saudi Arabia.
