Alstom has secured a five-year contract extension with Metrolinx, Ontario's provincial transportation agency, to continue providing operations and maintenance (O&M) services for both the GO Transit and Union Pearson Express (UPX) train fleets in Toronto. The agreement, valued at approximately €800 million ($1.3 billion CAD), extends the partnership until 2031.
The extended contract ensures Alstom will continue managing the rail operations for GO Transit, the regional public transit service for the Greater Golden Horseshoe area, and the Union Pearson Express (UPX), the express train connecting Canada's busiest airport to downtown Toronto. During the 2024-2025 period, Alstom's team of nearly 1,300 employees managed over 117,000 GO Transit train trips and 56,494 UP Express trips, with an on-time performance exceeding 97% across the busy network.
Michael Keroullé, President of Alstom Americas, stated that the renewed partnership reflects the excellence and expertise of Alstom's local services team. The company's commitment and dedication contribute to a 95% renewal rate for its O&M contracts. This extension further solidifies Alstom's position as a leading private provider of operations and maintenance services in North America.
This renewed agreement with Metrolinx extends a multi-year partnership and supports close to 1,300 direct jobs with Alstom in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton region. These roles encompass operations, drivers, conductors, customer service staff, and maintenance personnel. Alstom is a global entity focused on smart and sustainable mobility solutions.
