Alstom opens new mobility test and technology center in Västerås

Alstom, a global company focused on smart and sustainable mobility, has opened its new facilities in Västerås, Sweden. The new 10,000 square meter test and technology center aims to consolidate Alstom's innovation capabilities in Sweden and foster the development of future mobility solutions.

The center will house approximately 500 employees from various functions, including rolling stock and components, digital and integrated systems, and maintenance. This expansion is expected to enhance engineering and industrial projects crucial for Alstom's future development and manufacturing efforts, adding to the existing 16,000 square meters of service and workshop space.

During the inauguration, Alstom Chairman and CEO Henri Poupart-Lafarge highlighted Sweden's strong tradition of innovation and sustainable development. "The decision to establish a center here reflects Sweden's long tradition of innovation and sustainable development. Our goal is not only to contribute to this innovative ecosystem but also to benefit from it and grow together with it," he stated.

The Västerås facility builds on the city's historical role in Sweden's electrification industry, with previous advancements in areas such as energy-efficient traction systems and battery-powered solutions. The new center is designed to facilitate deeper collaborations with leading Swedish universities, startups, and other industrial companies in the region.

Technologies developed at the Västerås site are already being deployed in global projects, ranging from converting regional trains to battery power in France to metro systems in Singapore. The Swedish operations also handle significant maintenance and upgrade projects, including for Stockholm's subway system.
