Alstom Produces First Carbody Shell for Santiago Metro Line 7
Alstom has completed the production of the first carbody shell for Santiago Metro's Line 7 trains at its facility in Taubaté, Brazil.
Alstom announced the completion of the first carbody shell for the trains destined for Santiago Metro's Line 7. The component was manufactured at Alstom's Taubaté plant in São Paulo, Brazil.
The Taubaté facility will produce a total of 37 trains, each comprising five cars. These trains are part of a larger contract with Metro de Santiago, which includes the supply of the Urbalis CBTC signalling system, a 20-year maintenance contract, and a predictive maintenance system for trains and infrastructure.
The Metropolis trains are constructed from stainless steel, designed for durability and reduced energy consumption. Each train is 102 meters long and can accommodate up to 1,250 passengers. The design emphasizes passenger experience with features such as wide doors and spacious interiors.
Santiago Metro Line 7 is currently under construction and will span 26 kilometers with 19 stations. The new line is expected to significantly improve connectivity across several districts and reduce travel times substantially compared to existing bus services.
