Alstom report details economic contribution to South Africa
Alstom contributed R2.96 billion to South Africa's GDP during the 2024/2025 fiscal year, supporting thousands of local jobs and manufacturing projects.

Alstom has published its 2024/2025 impact report for South Africa, outlining the company's role in the national industrial and transport sectors. During the period, the company reported R5.56 billion in local procurement spending, engaging with 678 domestic suppliers. A portion of this spending was directed toward black-owned and black women-owned enterprises.
The firm operates five industrial sites across the country, including a large-scale train manufacturing facility in Nigel. These operations underpin key infrastructure initiatives, such as the production of commuter trains for PRASA and freight locomotives for Transnet, as well as the maintenance of the Gautrain network. These projects are intended to reduce reliance on road freight and improve public mobility.
Alstom Southern Africa Managing Director Tristan le Masne characterized the company's regional facilities as essential drivers of local industrial capacity. With a workforce of 2,395, almost entirely recruited locally, the company continues to focus on technical training and skill development programs to support its manufacturing output.
