Alstom secures 300 million euro contract for Paris RER lines
Alstom has won a framework contract valued at nearly 300 million euros to equip two RER lines in the Île-de-France region with its NExTEO signalling technology. The project aims to enhance train performance and reliability.
Mobility solutions provider Alstom has been awarded a framework contract worth approximately 300 million euros to implement its NExTEO signalling system on the RER B and RER D lines serving the Île-de-France region. The contract, described as one of the largest signalling deals in France, was awarded by Île-de-France Mobilités, SNCF Réseau, SNCF Voyageurs, and RATP.
The project's primary objective is to modernize and optimize the infrastructure of these two busy express lines. This modernization is intended to accommodate increasing passenger volumes by ensuring greater reliability in train movements, particularly within the shared tunnel section between Gare du Nord and Châtelet-les-Halles stations.
The NExTEO system utilizes Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) technology. Alstom states this technology will improve operational performance in densely populated central Paris while also adapting to conditions on the suburban branches of the lines. Furthermore, it will manage interoperability rules across both the national SNCF network and the RATP urban network.
Alstom positions itself as a global leader in the CBTC market. With this contract, the company will equip a total of 350 trains and 100 kilometers of track on the RER B and D lines, which are among the busiest in the region.
