Alstom secures digital rail contract in Queensland
Alstom has secured the first €69 million tranche of a contract for Queensland's "The Wave" program. The project will enhance rail safety and capacity ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Olympics.

Rail transport company Alstom has secured the first contract tranche valued at €69 million (AUD $114 million) for Queensland's "The Wave" program. This is part of a larger frame contract worth €214 million (AUD $354 million) and focuses on deploying digital train control systems along the Sunshine Coast line.
Alstom will supply European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 2 technology for Stage 1, "Sector 1 North," of the project. The system will also incorporate an integrated 5G digital radio system. The objective is to increase the rail network's capacity, safety, and reliability, while accelerating Queensland's transition to a digital railway.
The project is designed to support the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games by fostering a more efficient and future-ready transportation system. Alstom also highlights the creation of local jobs and skills development through the initiative, including a new Centre of Excellence.
As part of Queensland's broader ETCS program, this contract lays the groundwork for a modernized rail infrastructure in the region, contributing to a more efficient and effective public transport system.
