Alstom signs launch order for new Traxx Shunter locomotives
Alstom and Northrail have signed an agreement for up to 100 new Traxx Shunter locomotives. The deal signals the commercial launch of a new generation of shunting locomotives.
Alstom, a global leader in mobility solutions, has secured a framework agreement with Northrail, a European rolling stock leasing company, for the supply of up to 100 of its new Traxx Shunter locomotives. The deal, signed at the InnoTrans trade fair in Berlin, marks the commercial introduction of this new locomotive platform.
Northrail, which is majority-owned by RIVE Private Investment, placed a firm order for an unspecified number of Traxx Shunters along with 10 years of maintenance services. The initial order value is just under €100 million, with the locomotives intended for deployment in Germany. The total value of the framework agreement could reach up to €700 million.
The Traxx Shunter locomotives are designed for medium to heavy-duty shunting operations, offering high power and tractive effort. They feature both electric and diesel propulsion capabilities, enhancing operational flexibility.
Design and assembly of the locomotives will take place at Alstom's facility in Belfort, France. First deliveries are scheduled to begin by the end of 2029. This order reflects Alstom's investment in research and development to meet evolving customer needs in the rail sector.
